What it is
Gong Clock is a web-based timekeeping tool built for people who want an ambient, audible sense of time passing — writers, students, meditators, remote workers, and anyone who has ever lost track of an afternoon at their desk. Every hour, the app strikes a gong so you hear the day's rhythm instead of only seeing it on a screen.
It runs entirely in your browser as a Progressive Web App (PWA), which means it can be installed to your home screen or desktop and keeps working even when you're offline, without ever needing a native app store.
How the sound works
None of the ten instrument presets — Chinese tam-tam, Tibetan singing bowl, Mongolian temple bell, Japanese bonshō, cathedral bell, ship's bell, and others — are audio recordings. Each one is synthesized live in your browser using the Web Audio API: layered sine oscillators at inharmonic frequency ratios, FM synthesis for metallic timbres, and filtered noise bursts for the strike transient. That's why the app has no audio assets to download and why the sound is generated instantly with zero loading delay, no matter which instrument you pick.

No — it runs directly in your browser. If you'd like an app-like experience, most browsers let you "Install" or "Add to Home Screen" from the address bar, which turns it into a standalone PWA icon.
After your first visit, yes. The service worker caches the app so the clock, timer, stopwatch, and alarms all keep working offline. Timezone and holiday data that require a fresh lookup may not update until you're back online.
Not reliably. Browsers throttle timers in inactive background tabs to roughly once a minute, so the app can miss the exact moment the hour turns and skip that chime altogether. Keep the tab visible — or use fullscreen mode, which also holds a wake lock to stop the screen sleeping — if you are relying on the hourly gong.
